John 3:1-15

The Context (vs 1-2)
“Born Again” (vs 3-8)

• its necessity

“Very truly, I tell you that no one can see the kingdom of God without being born again.”

• it’s mysterious (vs 7-8)

it’s different than natural birth (vs 4-6)
“Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.”

How the New Birth Works (vs 9-15)

• Jesus must be lifted up

“Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up”

• We must believe
  

“…that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”

Epilogue: Nicodemus’ choice
Big Idea: It is impossible to know God or experience eternal life without a rebirth; possible through a personal faith in Christ.
